Once upon a time, two children named Hansel and Gretel were playing games instead of doing their chores. Their angry parents sent them into the woods to pick berries, but Hansel and Gretel could not find their way home when darkness fell. They grew very hungry, and after much wandering, they were delighted to find a house made of candy and cookies! But this house was not as pleasant as it seemed, for inside lived a witch who lured children to her home so that she could eat them.
Opera Animata will present Humperdinck’s operatic version of this classic children’s tale in a uniquely interactive format. Audience members will travel along with Hansel and Gretel as the children venture away from the safety of their home, through the enchanted forest and to the gingerbread house of the evil witch.
